Podcasts

I really enjoyed making the podcasts this past week in class. I already do music editing so this was along the same lines. I have not figured out how to use this in my math classes yet however. I find that my students benefit from actually seeing the work in front of them. Hearing it is not as effective. I think that the digital video tool would be a lot more useful so that the students can see and hear what they need to do.

  1. You're right. It is more difficult to think of a way to use the podcasts for math. In Geometry we could use them as a puzzle...where they have to use geometry vocabulary to describe a shape and students have to draw the shape, and then their partner can check their work.

  2. Cute idea for the Geometry class. Maybe your students could create a series of podcasts on how math is applicable in careers. Like one episode on how it is used in the music industry and another in the medical field. Just a thought.

  3. The podcast about math in careers sounds great!I agree about the visual being helpful with the audio. (Have you used teachertube.com?) I know that one of my friends did a math podcast so, I sent them an e-mail to ask what they did.

  4. I thing I am going to try is have students narrate the steps to solving problems and include that in their digital notebooks they are creating.

I've also thought about creating a math minute podcast that goes on the school website. Students could talk about what they are learning in class, or how they have used it in "the real world" or things along those lines.

  5. I feel the same about how am I going to use podcast in my classes. I'm sure there are many ways to do it. With your creativity I'm sure you will find a great lesson to use posdcast. Good luck and I look forward to hearing what you end up doing.
